EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – LINDSEY BLACKMAN
Hello! My name is Lindsey Blackman and I am the Executive Director of UPC! I am from Fishkill, NY, which is about 2 hours north of NYC. I am a Communication major and Education minor here at UMass Amherst. I am in the homestretch of my UMass career as I will be a senior this year. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends, going to concerts, and traveling. Luckily for me, UPC encompasses all of my favorite things.
How, you may ask? Let me explain….
1. Friendships…When I first joined UPC my freshman year, I found myself in a group of strangers. Throughout my time in UPC, though, those strangers became not just my friends, but my family.
2. Concerts…planning concerts is just one of the many amazing, unique experiences I am able to have because of UPC. I even got to plan the Spring Concert last year (!!!).
3. Traveling…every year we go to a conference called the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) that takes place somewhere in the U.S. (last year it was in Louisville, and this year it’s in Baltimore).
Besides the great experience of event planning, UPC is unique because you get to meet people outside your major that you may have never gotten the chance to meet and I really value that opportunity. UPC may be a lot of hard work but you can always find me chilling on the UPC couch with my slippers on.
AJ DiCesare is a dedicated Senior Building and Construction Technology (BCT) student from a small town called Groton, MA. He joined UPC his sophomore year because of one of his best friends and has not looked back. He enjoys cooking, the outdoors, woodworking, and caffeine.
Hey there! My name is Shameen Akhtar, and I’m currently a senior here at UMass! I’m an Architecture and Design major with a minor in Art History and am completing a certificate in Civic Engagement and Service Learning. I’m from good ol’ Cambridge, MA, and love all things Fall and anything with good vibes and great people.
I joined UPC the spring semester of my freshman year, enthralled by the many events the organization puts on. I started out as a general body member; then became a Late Night Events Coordinator my sophomore year; had the pleasure to be the Director of Internal Affairs on the executive board my junior year; and, now I have the awesome opportunity of being the Director of External Affairs this year!
I don’t think I would’ve stuck around if it weren’t for all the great things that come from being a part of UPC. You learn how to plan ALL KINDS of events, ranging from concerts to carnivals to even basic outdoor movies, and that experience gives you a portal of skills that carry with you. You get to meet so many people! From faculty to peers, I’ve made some great friends, and have found great mentors.
UPC’s a great time, and I LOVE to talk about it! Find me anywhere and let’s have a chat about all of the things!
