Executive Director

What qualities do you possess that you would bring to your position?
I am a determined leader with countless years of experience on campus making connections with student groups and administrators alike. I have been part of UPC since the first general body meeting of my freshman year, and have served as the Director of Finance for the past two years. I have a lot of experience in event planning, and have unrivaled experience at ensuring UPC receives the funding it needs to function well into the future.

I want to cement the connections we have with campus partners. I want to ensure that we have members of our group dedicated to collaborating with these partners, so that we can better expand our group, while improving the events that occur on this campus. I want to keep building the UPC brand, and that starts with activating our general body members. This means evaluating and tweaking our meeting structure, along with maintaining the family atmosphere that exists within the event coordinator community, and expanding that so general body members feel just as welcome in the space.

Why do you want to be a part of the UPC Executive Board?
I want to continue the work that I have put into this amazing group. UPC has been a big part of my life at UMass since day one, and I want to help this organization grow and flourish in its mission. I have spent the past two years serving on the Executive Board, and I feel as though I am now ready to assume this higher position. I want to help transition what will otherwise be a totally new Executive Board, and to become a better leader by working alongside these impressive individuals.

What Executive Board position are you running for?
Associate Director

What qualities do you possess that you would bring to your position?
I am motivated, organized, and responsible which will help me stay on track with all that needs to be done in order to create the best experience for our club. I am also an extroverted, people-loving, leader which are important qualities of any E-Board member. I will easily be able to communicate to others about what needs to be done and what’s upcoming; I love socializing and meeting new people which is important in making the general body and others feel welcomed and involved; and I know when/how to delegate and lead people in order to complete tasks as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Given your position, what is your ultimate goal in being part of the UPC Executive Board?
My ultimate goal is to make UPC even better represented. In order to do that, we need to get more people to the meetings and involve them in ways that will make them want to stay; we need to market our events in a more effective way to ensure that people KNOW who UPC is and what we do; and we need to continue planning events that are fun and will bring large crowds so we can be confident that we are truly entertaining the campus.

Why do you want to be a part of the UPC Executive Board?
I love UPC, it is my favorite club that I have joined on campus and honestly the only one that I continuously put in effort for. I am currently an Event Coordinator and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience and has immersed me into the industry of event planning and management. My career goal is to plan events at stadiums (like concerts, sporting games, etc.) or festivals, and being a part of UPC has been the best way to gain experience. Being apart of the Executive Board will be another step in teaching me what exactly goes into event management and will be an amazing resume booster. I have also been interning under the Event Manager at the Mullins Center this past semester and it has taught me so much about the industry from both the front and back of house perspective. Event management is a passion of mine and having the opportunity to be on E-Board would be an honor. This experience will allow me to be an integral part of the organization and pass on the knowledge I learn to the general body and event coordinators, encouraging them to follow their passion and begin their event managing careers.

What Executive Board position are you running for?
Director of Finance

What qualities do you possess that you would bring to your position?
As a potential Executive Board member I think that my passion and dedication are another two things that put me in a great position to lead. I think that as a leader, it’s important for members to see that I’m passionate and excited about what we’re doing because my attitude will inform theirs. In addition to my commitment to UPC, I believe that my organizational skills will serve me well as a Director of Finance. Handling the funds of UPC is a tremendous responsibility, but one that I am confident I can take on, as I will be sure to keep on top of our budget when unexpected things pop up and situations change throughout the year.

Given your position, what is your ultimate goal in being part of the UPC Executive Board?
As a member of the Executive Board, my ultimate goal would be to make UPC a greater presence on our campus. As much as I would love to see UPC continue to grow, I know that in order to do so we need the support of our entire student body. Next year, I hope that our programming will spark the interest of all UMass students, regardless of their year, their area of study or their group of friends. I hope that, as a group, we can build on what we have done in the past and use our creativity to spice up the things we do every year. We continue to do what we do because it works, but it is a goal of mine to not become complacent, but to push to make great events and great advertising, even greater.

Why do you want to be a part of the UPC Executive Board?
I quickly fell in love with UPC and over the past two years, it has become a big part of my life. From my very first meeting, I knew it wouldn’t be just another club I put on my resume. I come to the meetings and the events and the tabling because I enjoy it. I love working with my fellow Event Coordinators and with our general body, and I love seeing someone’s big idea manifest into an even bigger reality. I would love to take on the responsibility of joining the Executive Board because I want to be more involved with maintaining and building upon the things that makes UPC the great organization that I’m proud to be apart of.

What Executive Board position are you running for?
Director of Internal Affairs

What qualities do you possess that you would bring to your position?
Friendly, bubbly, and a workaholic are three major qualities that I believe I can positively bring to this position. UPC has given me the opportunity to become a favorable team player and I am committed to working harder than I ever have to fulfill the duties of the Director of Internal Affairs and follow in AJ’s footsteps.

Given your position, what is your ultimate goal in being part of the UPC Executive Board?
My ultimate goal is to make UPC a safe and accepting place for all UMass students. Providing support to other members of the group and attending events to show this is something I hope to enthusiastically implement in the club through my position. UPC is more than a club, it is a family, and I want to uphold that belief as if I do become the Director of Internal Affairs. As as Event Coordinator, I have constantly experienced a wonderful support system from the club and its members and I want to continue this tradition.

Why do you want to be a part of the UPC Executive Board?
UPC has given me the tools necessary to become a better student, person, and event planner and I feel as though being on the executive board is an opportunity for me to give back to the organization. Because UPC is already a huge part of my life, I want to continue this and commit myself even more to it. I know that being a part of the executive board will aid me in my professional ventures and it will allow me to fully comprehend the meaning of leadership. I love UPC and this position seems like the next logical next step for someone who is as committed to UPC as I am.

What Executive Board position are you running for?
Director of Internal Affairs

What qualities do you possess that you would bring to your position?
I am a detail-orientated individual as I often concentrate intently on each and every aspect of an activity, whether I am finishing an assignment or, say, editing a short film. This quality would be beneficial to my success if I am lucky enough to be selected as the next Director of Internal Affairs, especially in regards to keeping track of voting member requirements, for example. Secondly, I am consistently praised by my current boss for my easy-going attitude, especially when dealing with unforeseen complications or circumstances. And lastly, I pride myself on my dependability. As a leader of UPC, each member of the Executive Board requires a much more refined level of competence and dependability than a general body member, for example. Understanding this, I utilize time management and multitasking resources daily to ensure that I accomplish and complete what is expected of me. Considering that this practice has become habitual, I feel prepared to lead by example with punctuality and reliability as a member of the Executive Board.

Given your position, what is your ultimate goal in being part of the UPC Executive Board?
There are many goals that I would like UPC to accomplish, regardless of whether or not I am fortunate enough to join the Executive Board. However, I have prioritized the following goal which would be most beneficial to the efficiency of our organization. Increasing and improving cooperation and rapport between all groups within UPC—including general body members, event coordinators, and the Executive Board—would contribute positively to our success as an organization. I would actively encourage general body members to shadow event coordinators—this is one strategy that would be useful towards accomplishing my main goal of improved cooperation. Despite our best efforts, cliques tend to form within UPC, cliques that may or may not be detrimental to our collaborative work during events and meetings. As the Director of Internal Affairs, I would continuously promote camaraderie and teamwork while also striving to ensure that all of UPC’s members feel useful and appreciated.

Why do you want to be a part of the UPC Executive Board?
UPC has improved the quality of my life in more ways than I can imagine. Over the past three years, I have befriended some of the greatest people that I will ever have the pleasure of knowing. I have been blessed with a number of incredible opportunities, such as being able to film and co-direct the past three Spring Concert promotional videos. I have learned a great deal in this organization, not only from past experiences of coordinating events, but from the dedicated and ambitious leaders that I’ve seen deal with trials and tribulations, nonetheless remaining unscathed and enthusiastic. Besides academics, volunteering for UPC is my largest time commitment and I honestly cannot see myself not being actively involved at this point. Since the first semester of my freshman year, I have experienced firsthand what it means to be involved with UPC and the responsibilities associated with such a commitment. I’ve been lucky enough to hold the positions of a general body member, an executive coordinator, and a member of the marketing/street team, as well. Looking back on how thoroughly and positively UPC has impacted my interests and my identity, it seems only fitting that I now turn my focus towards working to the best of my ability on improving the quality of UPC as an organization. It is for these reasons that I would be absolutely honored and thrilled to serve UPC as a member of its Executive Board.

What qualities do you posses that you would bring to your position?
I am a very organized person which has allowed me to develop great time management skills which will come in handy in regards to the timing and execution of different posts across all of UPC’s social media accounts. Additionally, my experience as a social networker will be a great asset if given the chance to work in the position because I have been working in various marketing positions since my junior year of high school and feel that the skills I have gained have only grown with each position. Part of these skills have taught me how to work with a team in order to achieve the best possible outcome for our efforts. I feel this will help me immensely as Director of External Affairs as I intend on collaborating with not only my fellow marketing committee members but all UPC members to assure proper and successful marketing for all events. Finally, I believe that my enthusiasm and passion for UPC will only boost my productivity and success in the position because I will be working for something I love and encouraging others to come and explore all that we have to offer.

My ultimate goal in being part of the UPC Executive Board is to enhance our group involvement in the marketing and sharing off what our organization is all about. We love what we do and we want everyone who comes to our events to enjoy themselves. As a part of the Executive Board I hope to work with my fellow board members to create and execute the best possible events that engage all those who attend, including current UPC members. While giving all members of the organization a voice in what they would like to see UPC put on is important, it is ultimately up to the Executive Board to decide what will go on. I hope, as part of the UPC Executive Board, to collaborate with my fellow board members to lead UPC in the decision making that will ensure a effective marketing and an enjoyable year of events.

Why do you want to be a part of the UPC Executive Board?
The Executive Board is responsible for the leadership of the University Programming Council, a duty that is not to be taken lightly. I am willing and eager to take on the challenges of this role as it will allow my passion for UPC to become action. The Executive Board members are some of the biggest contributors in the events we put on and being able to be a part of that would be an amazing opportunity. I am excited to learn all about how the behind the scenes processes work and really get further behind all that is the University Programming Council. This organization has become such an immense part of my experience at UMass and I am extremely excited to be given the chance to share that experience with others as well as become part of the new inspiration that drew me in almost two years ago!

What Executive Board position are you running for?
Director of External Affairs / Marketing Director

What qualities do you possess that you would bring to your position?
Diligent, Good Time Management, Action Driven with Hard Work – I am not a procrastinator. I hate the idea of being behind on work because in my opinion, it adds unnecessary stress to our daily lives. I am always aware of my deadlines, keep them all in my Google Calendar and to-do lists, and I plan my schedules according to what I need to get done as soon as possible whether it be schoolwork, UPC, and other committments. Additionally, the time I spent doing UPC is either in the SORC designing/printing/laminating posters, communicating with Student Activities staff, administration, and vendors, or delivering materials to necessary

Unlimited Creativity and Super Attention to Detail – I’ve been the Marketing Coordinator for the past two years, I have a knack for clean, modern designs as I’ve shown, and all of the event posters I made that have been seen in residential halls and the Student Union throughout the two years I have been in the UPC. With three years of UPC Marketing experience under my belt and dabbled in marketing for every type of event we do, I am able to design effectively and quickly to spend more time on the behind the scenes communications and outreach that the Director is in charge of.

Super Tech Savy, Web Design and Digital Advertising & Media – I work to develop and revamp UPC’s digital presence with the new website, and managing all of our social media accounts. As a Computer Science and Marketing double major, UPC gives me the opportunities to integrate the skills that I learn in my two degrees and apply them to promote our organization’s fantastic events. Our social media outlets are booming, and having the additional web resource that we have will greatly improve our External Relations reaching out to the undergraduate student body.

Given your position, what is your ultimate goal in being part of the UPC Executive Board?

My goal is to integrate the event coordination side and the marketing side of UPC. Oftentimes, the two operate separately and keep each other in contact when necessary. I personally want the marketing team and I to observe each event process on Day 1.

Why do you want to be a part of the UPC Executive Board?
I want to be on the UPC Executive Board because I truly love working in this organization. I have been part of the Marketing team since I started UMass, and every year I always want to do more.

Being a part of the UPC Executive Board will extend my leadership qualities and build on my abilities to effectively work and communicate as a team player. As this will be my last year in UPC, I would not want to spend it any other way than to be on the Executive Board. I want to make the event marketing process a very positive one. It will give me the chance to take the initiative to better understand the relationship between event coordinators and the marketing team. With the freedom and power to make important decisions, it will test and extend my creativity and outreach skills for the organization’s external relations to the entities that we serve: the UMass administration, the Student Activities & Involvement department, and the entire undergraduate population.
